The officials of the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) on Friday morning raided a ‘Bhatti' and ice-cream stalls near Tanya Hotel, Vasco, which were allegedly operating without licence.

The FDA officials raided the ‘Bhatti' run by Jetharam Batti and seized Farsan worth Rs 1.5 lakh and 11 bags of spurious Mava worth Rs 80,000. According to sources, Mava was brought as Barfi and sweets were made in unhygienic conditions. Sources added that three stalls of Mewar ice-creams, belonging to Jamnalal Gujjar which were making ice creams in unhygienic conditions in the adjacent premises, were also raided. The raid was conducted by the FDA under Rajiv Korde. Speaking to the media, Korde said they had directed both the premises to stop the operations. "These products are made in most unhygienic condition and we will not allow them to continue. We have ordered to stop the business till they get licences as per law," said Korde.
Aiming at giving relief to coconut consumers from soaring prices, Goa State Horticulture Corporation Limited (GSHCL) has decided to sell coconuts, beginning with the three outlets owned by GSHCL - two in Panaji and one in Margao.
